Our 3rd and final part about the governments initiative Green Deal, energy savings for business and home owners.  Here we will be let you know about:

  • If you’re moving and the property has a green deal already in process
  • Useful contact numbers should your business want to get involved as a provider/assessor

I am moving and the property has a Green Deal Contract in place

If the property you are moving to has a Green Deal contract the landlord or seller must advise you of this and show you a copy of the Energy Performance Certificate.  This will show the improvements that have been made and how much the costs are.  You will now be responsible for these payments.  Landlords: you will need to add this to your tenancy agreement.

The person who is responsible for the bill payments pays the monies back – so if you are a tenant of a rented property you will be paying back the costs not the landlord.  This is purely because the tenant will benefit from the lower energy costs. Tenants: you will need to check if there is a Green Deal in place as you will be liable for payment if it has not be paid up.

Note: if you do move into a new home and it has a Green Deal and you want to change your energy supplier, you can only change your energy supplier if they are participating in the Green Deal Scheme.

Useful contact information

Should you have questions about improvements, warranties or repayments, contact the Green Deal provider who has completed the work, their contact details will be on your Energy Performance Certificate.  Should you have a complaint and it can not be dealt with by the provider or supplier contact the Green Deal Ombudsman.

If you are a tradesman, manufacturer or are involved in the supply and installation of energy saving products your business can join in the Green Deal. Green Deal customers have access to over 40 different types of improvements across the following sectors, including:

• Insulation • Heating • Glazing • Lighting • Micro-generation
