What may be included in a bar insurance policy?
Loss of Licence Cover
Serving alcohol requires a licence, facing fines or prison if you do so without one. With this policy, loss of earnings will be compensated, should your bar’s license be withdrawn – subject to your insurers specific terms and conditions of cover.
Product Liability Insurance
Illnesses and injury caused by the food and drink you sell can make recovery for customers quite tough. You can make this easier with a policy that is available up to £5m, should your business ever be sued.
Employers Liability insurance
Your bar staff take care of your business, so if they suffer an injury, or become ill due to their employer’s negligence, they deserve to be taken care of too. This policy offers cover up to £10m, making the road to recovery far easier.
Protecting everything from your bar’s fixtures and fittings through to your electronic equipment and displays, replacements can be provided as quickly as possible.
Benefits of having Bar Insurance
Bar insurance provides a blanket of cover to protect bar businesses from a variety of risks such as theft, arson, loss of license or food poisoning. Everyday risks can also be associated with natural causes which could result in your business temporarily being incapable of operating.
At The Insurance Octopus, we cannot stop any of these unfortunate events happening, but we can help you find a business insurance policy that provides the right financial protection for your bar.

How bar & wine bar insurance works
Examples of Bar Insurance in action
A slippery situation
A bar owner found himself facing legal action after a customer slipped near the door of their bar on a wet day. Unfortunately, no warnings were in place to inform customers of the potential danger. The customer took legal action against the bar which went against the owners and left them liable for a payout of £15,000 to the customer. Fortunately, the owners had Public liability insurance in place, which covered the cost of a payout that could have forced them to make staff redundancy and scale back their plans for growing.
