Understanding Contract Works and Plant (Contractors All Risks)
You can buy Contract Works (CAR) and Contract Plant cover in isolation from one another, but they often come combined. Plant cover allows you to cover things such plant, equipment and machinery that you own, have hired in, or have hired out either on a long-term or short-term basis.
Contract Works (CAR) cover helps to protect you should you need to carry out the works on a site again due to damage such as an extension catching fire or a roof blowing off half way through the job. It helps to cover you so that you can complete the work without losing out financially.
What kind of cover is available under Contract Works and Plant?
- Cover for loss and damage to the contract works including materials and other goods to be incorporated into the works whilst on the contract site, in transit to and from the contract site or temporarily stored elsewhere.
- Cover for loss and damage to your own plant, equipment, machinery and site huts on the contract site, in transit to and from the contract site, at your premises in a securely locked compound garage or building, or elsewhere in respect of plant and machinery undergoing maintenance or repair.
- Cover for loss and damage to hired in plant on the contract site, in transit to and from the contract site, at your premises in a securely locked compound garage or building, or elsewhere in respect of plant and machinery undergoing maintenance or repair, and including hire charges assumed under a hiring agreement for a maximum period of 60 days but excluding the first 48 hours.
CAR cover is often added as an extension to your main Public and Employers Liability insurance.
