Understanding bricklayers insurance

We’ll build you a policy, brick by brick

As a professional bricklayer, a bricklayers insurance policy will help you protect yourself and your business from risks associated with your trade. Whether you only need a general builders insurance policy or you are a specialist in a specific area of building work such as domestic or commercial buildings, we can help you save time and money on your builders insurance or bricklayers insurance policy and source a policy to suit your requirements.

At The Insurance Octopus, we find comprehensive business insurance policies that are designed to allow you to add, remove, increase or decrease all areas of your policy. You will be able to personalise your low cost bricklayers insurance to exactly how you want it, ensuring you have all the essential cover you need in one simple business insurance policy.

What your Bricklayers Insurance policy includes

Public Liability cover

Public Liability insurance covers your business if someone gets hurt or property is damaged in the course of your work. Standard levels of cover are £1, £2m, or £5m and higher levels are available upon request subject to insurers terms and conditions. Public Liability will protect you should there be a legal case for injury or damage.

Employers Liability cover for bricklayers

Employers Liability insurance is a legal requirement if you employ anyone or pay sub-contractors to complete works on your behalf with your tools and equipment. Standard Employers Liability insurance policy is £10m cover.

Contract Works or Contractors All Risks cover

Contract Works or Contractors All Risks cover will insure your construction works plus materials should they be damaged or the materials stolen prior to completion. The policy will also cover the additional labour costs to rebuild the work previously completed along with cover for your own or hired plant. An example of this would be if you are completing an extension and it is damaged or destroyed by fire; you would have to complete the work again. Contract Works cover will provide the protection you need in this instance. Contract works insurance is available as a single one off policy or as a yearly policy.

Plant and Tools cover

Plant and Tools cover will protect your tools of your trade whilst working on site such as a construction or building site.

In addition to standard Tradesman and Contractors Insurance package, if you are a specialist in a particular field of bricklaying you may need to amend your policy to be specific to your business. Through The Insurance Octopus you can specify specific areas such as working up to 50 meters in height, having over 75% of your work using heat or working deeper than the standard 2-3 meters. Give us a call today to find out more information about additional cover for your policy.

Why you need Bricklayers Insurance

There are many risks associated with being in a trade specific occupation, and there are areas of risk that you may need to consider when looking for business insurance. It’s important to get the right cover to protect your business. Your business insurance policy from The Insurance Octopus will include fundamental elements of insurance that a tradesman or contractor could need while working including liabilities and full tool and equipment cover. You also have the flexibility of having additional covers added to your policy to suit the needs of your business.

  • Do bricklayers need personal accident cover?

The short answer is no, but it is highly advisable to take it out. A bricklayer is exposed to various risks, and an accident or injury could leave you unable to work either temporarily or permanently. In the event of something like this happening, personal accident cover could provide you with the lifeline you need to maintain an income while you recuperate, or while you look for a new line of work.

  • Why does a bricklayer need insurance?

In any trade, there is a risk that your work (and things associated with it) could cause damage or harm to property or people. When this happens, and you are liable for the cost of the damage, having insurance that covers you will prevent you incurring substantial costs that could cause catastrophic damage to your business or personal finances. Having cover is the safest option for you.

How Bricklayers Insurance works

Examples of Bricklayers Insurance in action

£1,000 for Clumsy Carrying

A bricklayer was building a new wall in the back garden of a client’s home. To get his materials into the rear garden, he had to carry them up the driveway and through the house, as there was no side gate. While carrying some bricks past the client’s car, he accidentally scraped it along the side and scratched the paintwork. Fortunately, the bricklayer had public liability insurance in place, which covered the cost of the vehicle repairs with a payout of £1,000.
