What your plumbers insurance policy includes
Public Liability cover for plumbers
Public Liability insurance for plumbers insurance is included as standard. If one of your customers or member of the public is injured, or their property is damaged as a result of your actions or inaction, plumbers liability insurance protects you against the cost of repairs or any legal proceedings that may be filed against you.
Employers Liability cover
Employers Liability cover is a legal requirement by law and standard cover is for £10m. Employers Liability insurance covers you and your staff. As an employer, you do have a legal responsibility to ensure that you have provided a safe and secure workplace for employees and visitors.
All Risk insurance cover
All Risk insurance covers your possessions away from your business premises or home such as a laptop, tools, mobile phone.
Contract Works or Contractors all Risks cover
Contract Works or Contractors All Risks cover will insure your construction works plus materials, should they be damaged or the materials stolen prior to completion. The policy will also cover the additional labour costs to rebuild the work previously completed along with cover for your own or hired plant. An example of this would be if you are completing an extension and it is damaged or destroyed by fire, you would have to complete the work again. Contract Works cover will provide the protection you need in this instance, and is available as a single one off policy or as a yearly policy.
Legal costs cover
Legal costs will help you should a public liability or employers liability claim be made against you. This can be a property damage or injury that have been caused by your actions, leading to clients, employees or the public possibly suing you for damages.
Personal Accident cover
Personal Accident cover provides compensation, on an agreed scale, for death or bodily injury, but excludes illness or disease. Cover can be provided for all Proprietors, Partners, Directors and Employees, but it is not possible to insure selected individuals.

Plumbers Insurance FAQ's

Is public liability insurance legally required for plumbers?
Public liability insurance is not actually a legal requirement. However, it’s a necessary cover to have in place as it will ensure that your business is protected financially. It will also make sure that the interests of the public and your clients are protected. To not have public liability insurance can be off-putting to certain clients, as it can mean that you will be unable to cover costs for legal proceedings, repairs or injury should anything happen to you, your clients or a member of the public.
Do I need professional indemnity insurance?
To put it simply, if you will be giving any advice to clients, then professional indemnity insurance is a necessity. Its purpose is to protect you from any losses a client may experience as a direct result of your advice, designs or services. It can also cover any errors in your work, unintended copyright or confidentiality breaches, defamation and libel, loss of goods or loss of money that you own or are responsible for. No matter how well your business operates, these accidents can occur and it’s always best to protect yourself.
How does tool cover work for my trade?
Even the most careful plumbers can experience damage or loss to their tools. And when misfortune strikes, it can be expensive to change. Tool cover is not a legal requirement, but it ensures that if anything happens to your tools, you’ll be able to regain the equipment that enables you to do your job. Whether your tools have been stolen, damaged, lost or broken, this cover will protect you from the large expenses that may occur when it’s time to replace your tools.
How insurance for plumbers works
Examples of Plumbers Insurance in action
Unlucky Plumber Causes Expensive Property Damage
An experienced plumber is forced to reroute water pipes in a hospital without turning off the water supply, which is needed 24/7 for the hospital’s surgical wing. Unfortunately, a pipe is broken and water begins gushing into the ceiling cavity which soon causes the ceiling to collapse. Once the situation is under control, the damage done amounts to £40,000, and the plumber is found to be liable for it. His public liability insurance foots the bill, which would otherwise have bankrupted his company.
