What is Tree Surgeon & Arborist Insurance?

Up a tree or pruning bushes, protect your business with dedicated cover

As a tree surgeon you’ll be used to working in unusual locations. You’ll spend much of your time working at height while up in trees; pruning, felling, chopping, and trimming to ensure the countries trees remain in tip top shape. But your job isn’t the typical 9 to 5, with much of your time being spent working in varying locations, from national parks and inner cities to a home owners garden. You’ll be faced with a great number of risks and hazards on a daily basis, with a high potential for accidents occurring due to the heights involved and the need for high powered machinery which you’ll need to use to carry out much of your work.

Chainsaws, hedge or tree trimmers are just some examples of the types of dangerous heavy duty machinery you’ll be laying your hands on. Tree surgeons, or as they’re formally known; arborist or arboricultural specialists, carry out a specialised job and thus require bespoke insurance coverage to ensure their business and livelihoods are protected.

How it works

Examples of Tree Surgeon Insurance in action

Tree Surgeon Falls Foul of Work Accident

A tree surgeon is hired to cut back the large branches of an intrusive oak tree. Up a ladder and using a chainsaw to remove a thick branch, he miscalculates the angle the branch will fall at. It swings down and knocks the ladder out from under the tree surgeon’s feet, causing him to fall 20 feet and break a leg and an arm. Thankfully, he had Personal Accident Insurance in place to cover the time he is unable to work whilst recovering – a weekly benefit payout to help keep him afloat.

An expensive fall

A tree surgery professional with plenty of experience in the tree service industry is involved in an accident during work. While carrying out work 15ft up a tree, our arborist slips on a wet branch. He falls with the chainsaw in tow. While falling his arm is exposed to the chainsaws blade, with injury caused to his left arm. The injury results in the individual being signed off work for a number of months. Following the accident the tree surgeon was able to successfully claim for medical and legal costs associated with the fall and subsequent injury thanks to having employer’s liability cover. They were also able to receive a weekly sum due to having Personal Accident Cover on the policy.
